Clean Plate Day

1/3rd of all food globally goes to waste, which is enough to feed 3 billion people. If food waste was a country, it would be the 3rd largest greenhouse gas emitter on the planet. Average person in India wastes 137 gms of food every single day. That’s 0.96 kg per week or 50 KG per year.

In India 40% of the food is wasted which is equivalent to Rs. 92,000 Crore a year. In Jainism we are advised to clean our plates before we finish our meal. Also it is advised to eat a little less than what fills our stomach. Which is also a very good practice for our health. Unused and safe food should be handed over as quickly as possible to the needy. Compost food waste rather than throwing them away. Also food waste shall not be thrown in plastic bags, which most of the times are consumed by street animals like cow and buffalo.

As a part of this activity commit to a clean plate day today – take only as much as you can eat and ensure zero waste. Share a picture of the plate, after your meals today, on our email id –forms@appliedjainism.inand let us know how you participated
