Pledge to place a limit on the items consumed e.g. only 3 Jeans a year

It is very important practice in today’s era to develop a habit of Aparigraha (do not possess anything extra). We live in a world family, which has limited resources – be it natural or economic. So, we have to cultivate habit of minimalism. Minimalism means we should use the resources of the world only as much as we require and not more than that.

It’s a way of life to escape the excesses of the world – the excesses of material possessions and consumerism. True value of understanding Jain principle lies in real living by this principal. It is getting rid of things that you do not need and lead a simple life. Use of resources in life should be need-based and requirement-based and not unnecessary greed-based. Each resource has a cost in terms of environment. Imagine, if one person saves one resource in one year, we have 130 crore resource saving in a year in India only. We can make life simple by reducing non-required things, which helps in saving financial costs and make better choices in finances and in life.

It will lead to a debt-free, sustainable and natural lifestyle. Less possessions means less burden on the environment. Discard the things by giving to someone else that you do not require. These may be extra books, clothes, stationary, home appliances, utensils, plastic items, bicycles, etc. Travel light as possible. You should carry just the minimum.

Jainism teaches this habit when you follow the monk life for few days.
